Crap! I just realized the “Me as a Doll” image is gone. I must’ve edited and uploaded an older version of my blog when I changed Adrian’s URL. Dammit. Lemme find that image again…

I have an idea for a Personal Programming Project. A neat li’l utility that, from what I can tell, does not yet exist in any other form. But I’m not gonna say here what it is, lest some fool come along and steal my idea. So I guess this is the teaser. We’ll see when/if I do it. And my fellow TCs and I have ideas for programming projects for work, too.

According to the Global Rich List, I am among the top 0.977% richest people in the world. Hmmm. Anyway. This doesn’t take into account relative costs of living, of course.

So much to say, so little time. Not enough hours in the day. I feel like I should write about the gun show this weekend, and the big black “Third Reich” flag emblazoned with a swastika. -Not that we *went* to a gun show. We went to a tech expo (which turned out to be pretty silly, but at least it was free) and on the other side of the convention center there was a Gun & Knife Expo. We had to walk past the entrance because of where we’d parked, and when we glanced inside, all I saw was the flag I described above. That and a bunch of large, bald, heavily-tattooed scary-looking men lumbering around with guns. There was a sign at the entrance that said, “Please unload your guns before entering.” Scary!

Anyway, today has been a long day that flew past, if that makes any sense. I spent pretty much all day working with a Novell consultant, trying to get this Brainchild crap figured out. We ran into some “technical difficulties” and he’s going to have to come back out tomorrow. (What gets me the most about this is that they are breathing down my neck wanting me to magically make it work, when it’s *their* fault we’re in this situation because they didn’t do their research ahead of time. And yet when I finally *do* get it to work, I know I’ll get no thanks — only flak if it *doesn’t* work.) People were on my case all day about various minutiae (sp?) that the parties in question always seem to think are the most urgent matters imaginable. Basically people were getting attitudes with me all day long. It wears me down. I got to work this morning at 7:45 and didn’t leave until after 5:00. [sigh]… I hope tomorrow is better. But I have stopped taking crap from people. Yes they still give me attitudes, and yes it still wears me down, but I have stopped trying to sugar-coat everything and be nice nice nice no matter what. If someone is an asshole to me, I am not going to treat them like they’re the Queen or something. Dammit.

Also Joi Internet is trying to charge me $9.95 for dial-up for September, even though I had only signed up for August. WTF? I’m about to regulate.

My Friday afternoon routine… come home and crash into bed, for a much-needed nap, at least 2 hours long.

So, hmm, what shall I do with the rest of this evening? Perhaps some grocery shopping, perhaps some laundry… thrilling stuff, I know.

This weekend, my fellow Katapultz TCs and I are going to a Tech Expo at the Dallas Market Center. :-) Should be fun.

I’m glad the week is over. People were bitching at me all day at work. Some of these people need to just calm their asses down and realize they’re not the center of the universe. -And that if they’d just be *polite* to me, I might actually be more likely to take time out from the stuff I’m already doing to see what their problem is.

Today I threw my piece-of-crap top-of-the-line Dell out the window. -Okay, not really, but I disconnected it and put it in a corner of the room. I’ll be bringing my iBook to work from now on. For the rest of this afternoon, I used an old HP Vectra with a 333mhz Celeron and 64 megs of RAM. Interestingly, it performed much faster than the “fast” Dell.

“You don’t drink? Why?”
“You don’t use mayonnaise? Why? Are you addicted to mayonnaise? Is it ok if I use mayonnaise?”

Is the government finally wising up? (on at least one thing… we won’t get into a discussion of foreign or domestic policy)

I have come to the conclusion that there’s no fighting it: I am a night owl — always have been, always will be. Like I wrote about once before, I believe it was bred into me at an early age, when I would stay up late waiting for my mom to come home when she worked as a bartender, or staying up late with her on the nights she didn’t work. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to getting up at 5:30-6:00 AM. If I had a job that started at 9:00 so I could sleep til, say, 7:00, 7:30, even 8:00 if the place were close enough — that would make all the difference. It’s amazing what a difference an hour and a half or so can make. But I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get myself into the habit of going to bed at 10:00 PM. I hit my prime in the late evening and am at my best straight through til midnight. “That’s just the way it is… some things’ll never change…”

There were three adorable little kittens at work this afternoon. :) It brightened my day. One of the police officers (yes, we have police officers at the school where I work) found them underneath a concrete slab in front of the school. There was no sign of a mother cat, and there are a lot of stray dogs in the area, so she brought them inside. They were in a box in the counselor’s office when I saw them, all curled up together on a pillow case. So cute!!! Fortunately they all went to good homes; one teacher took two, and another teacher took one. They were so sweet. :)
