Song lyrics of the day

(Wow, I am becoming quite the frequent blogger… maybe Patrick and Dave and their ilk are starting to influence me subconsciously…)

Everclear, “I Will Buy You a New Life”

Here is the money that I owe you
So you can pay the bills
I will give you more
When I get paid again

I hate those people who love to tell you
Money is the root of all that kills
They have never been poor
They have never had the joy of a welfare Christmas

I know we will never look back

You say you wake up crying
Yes and you don’t know why
You get up and you go lay down
Inside my baby’s room

I guess I’m doing ok
I moved in with the strangest guy
Can you believe he actually thinks
That I am really alive

I will buy you a garden
Where your flowers can bloom
I will buy you a new car
Perfect shiny and new
I will buy you that big house
Way up in the west hills
I will buy you a new life
Yes I will

Yes, I know all about that other guy
The handsome man with athletic thighs
I know about all the times before
With that obsessive little rich boy

They might make you think you’re happy
Yeah maybe for a minute or two
They can’t make you laugh
No they can’t make you feel the way that I do

I will buy you a garden
Where your flowers can bloom
I will buy you a new car
Perfect shiny and new
I will buy you that big house
Way up in the west hills
I will buy you a new life
I will buy you a new life

I know we can never look back

Will you please let me stay the night
No one will ever know

I will buy you a garden
Where your flowers can bloom
I will buy you a new car
Perfect shiny and new
I will buy you that big house
Way up in the west hills
I will buy you a new life

Hey, we always like to hear more from you, amber. Blog away!

  2. Russ says:

I hate Everclear. Your post makes me :(

  3. Amber says:

Hate is a strong word, Russ…

  4. Ken says:

Hate for a band or the music a band has made or what the band purports to stand for?

I have never met anybody IRL who really hated anything. The ones who said they did were always easily talked away from their point.

Most people I know love to love things and love to hate things. Perhaps we’re lucky that _things_ don’t return the favor.

When I stopped defining myself through poetry or fiction or music I started defining myself through my past actions and decisions, and I started sculpting my future with the presence of mind grounded in the NOW where the act of sculpting was both scary and exciting.

What am I speaking of? [propaganda]good questions good answers. I’m talking about the uselessness of hate. Word up. Go Ninja / go ninja go!

I always start these comments with a purpose and I always ruin it.

Whatever happened to Color Me Badd?

  5. Jmac says:

I must concur with Russ. Everclear is horrible.

Kinda like Goo-Goo Dolls … a couple of guys who look like hard-core rockers, but always end releasing cheesy power ballads or something.

And any reference to Color Me Badd is always appreciated. Didn’t those guys just get haircuts and come back as 98 Degrees?

  6. Amber says:

Hey, the Goo Goo Dolls are truly horrible. As are the Gin Blossoms. As for Everclear… well, I like ‘em, and that’s the way it is!

Color Me Badd… aren’t they the ones that had that song “I Wanna Sex You Up”? Or was that some other three-word mostly-black group of the early 90s?

  7. chris says:

Did you just call Color Me Badd mostly black?

  8. Amber says:

I did. Wasn’t there a white guy (or a bi-racial guy) in CMB?

  9. chris says:

I think there were 3 white guys and a black guy. See?

  10. Russ says:

    No no…I HATE them. :)

  11. Amber says:

Wasn’t that black guy in Milli Vanilli?

  12. Jmac says:

The Gin Blossoms - yeah, they sucked too.

I always liked Blind Melon though, since we’re on faux grunge bands from the early 1990s.

And Color Me Badd also had the breakaway pop hit ‘I Adore (Mi Amore)’ … which was truly horrible.

And ‘I Wanna Sex You Up’ was a huge hit … it was on the New Jack City soundtrack.

    Crappy song. Great movie.

  13. Bryan says:

Wasn’t it Marc that was a huge fan of the Gin Blossoms?

Most people I know love to love things and love to hate things.

If we didn’t how would we experience love and hate? I’m sure Charles or Xon can would love to take that and run.

  14. Ken says:

I’m sure it will make for a great blog entry.

  15. Amber says:

Ken: you no likey my comment on your blog? You didn’t post it. I feel so shunned…
