Pimp My Blog – with absolutely no help from me

Apparently, I’m on BlogShares. Who knew? And Shoobie 0wn$ me. Interesting.

Guess I should add a link to BlogShares under the “Pimp My Blog” section of my sidebar. The big pimpin’ must be working so far, if the graph of my share price history is any indication.

Out-of-context quote from me, said yesterday: “I need to be a better whore.” (Because it would be weird to set a quote from myself as my header quote.)

I had no margaritas at Taqueria Del Sol; I have no excuse for this post

I am really excited about something. But alas, blogosphere, I cannot tell you what it is at the moment.

Don’t you love when I’m cryptic? I mean, why would I bother posting this at all since it’s essentially a post about nothing? I have no answer for myself.

Unrelated: the word of the day is salacious. As in, “My blog covers it all – the good, the bad, and the salacious.”

The title of this post is the length of a typical Dooce title. It’ll make my “Recent Comments” look all weird. Oh well. Good night.

Gah, everybody is doing this

And I’m such a follower. Hence:

Go to Music Outfitters and search for the year you graduated high school. Find the Top 100 Songs of that year, and then take the list and bold the ones you liked, strikethrough the ones you didn’t, and leave the ones you can’t remember or don’t care about alone. -Actually, I’m modifying the rules: I’m going to italicize the ones I know but don’t care about. That way you can see how unfamiliar I was (and remain) with pop music.

Infrastructure, and Gallery Weirdness

So, I bought this book at the Transit Museum in New York. (The Transit Museum, by the way, was pretty damn cool.) Rail power substations might seem like an odd thing to write a book about, but I think it’s awesome. I read the whole thing on the plane. (To be fair, the amount of text was comparitively small; the book is mostly photographs.) This all goes back to my fascination with infrastructure – especially of the hidden, little-known variety. Of course, water towers will always have a special place in my heart, though; and if someone can get a book of substation photos published, then who’s to say I can’t publish a book of water tower photos?

Unrelated meta note: This is very frustrating. The albums in my Gallery keep reordering themselves. This is the second time it’s happened. I have no idea why this is happening! There is no rhyme or reason to it. They’re supposed to be in chronological order, and now they are mysteriously fucked up and in no order whatsoever, for the second time, and it really irritates me!

NYC Recap, So Far

Yes, the ass-sitting is in full swing! Yesterday we sat around for a while and then went to dinner at this awesome Indian place, which I’d been craving since the last time I was in New York (Cari, if you’re reading this, I’m going to want Indian food for lunch Monday). Then we came back, ate chocolate pudding, and watched Secretary. That was the extent of our Friday night craziness.

This morning, we walked to a farmer’s market with Dacia’s upstairs neighbor. We ate pastries on the way back and, upon our return, immediately commenced more ass-sitting. After about an hour we headed into the city (Dacia lives in Brooklyn, which, apparently, hates me). We went to Babeland, which kicked ass. Then we stopped in a grocery store and bought a tub of Gummi worms, which we stood devouring while we waited for The Upstairs Neighbor to buy sushi or some such healthy bullshit. I remarked, “I bet some people would think this is weird – shopping for sex toys and then eating Gummi worms.” Dacia replied, “Well, I don’t give a shit what most people think.” We concluded, “Yeah, fuck ‘em!”

A little more shopping and we were back home again, eating yummy, yummy pizza. Then I took a nap on the couch. And here I am. Dacia’s roommate walked in not too long ago while I was still lying on couch and seemed incredulous at our supreme sittin’ around. He demanded, “What are you ladies doing tonight??” and seemed disappointed when I said, “You’re lookin’ at it.” (In fairness, we’re probably going to watch some Mr. Show episodes in addition to the ass-sitting.)

Tomorrow I’m going to the Transit Museum, which I am really excited about, because I’m a dork. I’m sure I’ll buy some unnecessary paraphernalia.

I know this is really boring, but I felt like posting something. This post is boring because my life is boring; deal.

Public Service Announcement

I leave for NYC in a few hours, where I will be chilling with Dacia and there will be much ass-sitting. Not sure if/when I’ll be able to use the internets while there, so if posting is light/sporadic, you know why. (And please disgregard any comment spam that may appear – I’ll get to it as soon as I can, GOSH!)

Intervention

Outtakes from an IM conversation with David aka eponymous, earlier today. (And no I won’t tell you what we were originally talking about – because I don’t remember. He IMed me about a blog post somewhere, but I don’t remember what/where/why.)

eponymous: “I am what I am and that’s all that I am”

eponymous: ouch

eponymous: stop

eponymous: you’re killing me

me: i know… world’s tiniest violin!!1!11

eponymous: amber, i’ve put off saying this

eponymous: but, we need to have a serious talk

eponymous: your use of ! is becoming a problem

eponymous: it’s distancing you from your friends, your family and the people that care about you

eponymous: it has to stop!

me: wow

me: strong words

eponymous: we can help you

eponymous: through this 12-step program, you will learn to use the bang wisely and concientiously and never again sully the screen with its overuse

me: is it my use of ! that’s a problem, or my use of 1?

eponymous: well, ok, it’s only 8 steps

eponymous: obviously, the ‘1′ is merely your overeagerness to use the bang

* eponymous snorts

eponymous: /sarcasm

me: i do like to use the bang, as they say

Two Episodes on the Elevator

Yesterday’s episode: “Unintentional Rapping”

Sam: (looking up at an opening in the ceiling of the elevator) I’d like to take a look at what’s up there.

Me: I don’t think you can reach that far.

Sam: I think I can.

Me: Jump… jump, can you jump…

Ryan: Are you rapping?

Today’s episode: “Too Close For Comfort”

Me: Felini’s pizza gives me gas.

[Guy who just got in elevator gets back out]

Bitchy McRanterson

Nobody wants to read a blog post where someone’s just bitching about their shitty day, or how busy they are, or how little sleep they’ve been getting. That shit is boring. Yet that’s exactly what I’m going to write about here.

So, yeah. Last night I was smacked in the face with the fact that I leave for New York Friday morning – less than two days away. And I have so much shit to take care of before then. Boring shit. Minutiae. But shit that has to be done, nevertheless. Like dealing with the idiots at the Fulton County Tax Commissioner’s Office, who apparently don’t understand what a maiden name is, and waited 5 years before FREAKING OUT about the name on my car title and sending me a letter stamped “URGENT! Reply by 8/25/05.” Also, there are the fools at the student loan consolidation Office in the Sky. In general, an overarching theme is: The Man is trying to take all my money.

Aside from minutiae, a lot of other stuff has happened over the past two weeks, as you may or may not know. I’ll write more about all that later, as right now I must sneak down to the bar.
