Disaster Averted!

Tonight: Liz Phair at the Roxy. Oh yes, this will be a great show. The last time I saw her was in 1998, at NYU. And if I remember correctly, it was FREE (although my memory could be faulty in my old age).

Tonight’s show is not free, and there was almost a disaster. I could have sworn when I ordered tickets last week that I had bought two. But apparently I had bought only one. I discovered this when I opened the PDF of my (assumed) tickets, only to find that there was just one. I checked my receipt, and sure enough, only one ticket was purchased. Son of a…! Fortunately the show wasn’t sold out (and is general admission), so I ordered another on Ticketmaster’s web site just now. It’s a good thing I discovered my dumbassitude (yes, I’m lifting Tony’s word) now and not at, oh, 7:00 PM.

Also, Ticketmaster and their stupid “convenience charges” can proverbially lick my proverbial balls.

I saw her last year, at a club here in town, and it was a really decent show. You think you pretty much know what to expect when from a Liz Phair show when you head there, and you are pretty much right.

    You should enjoy it.

Yeah Ticketmaster continues to suck ass after all these years. But hey it is pretty convenient to just jump online and buy tickets in like two minutes instead of standing in line for 3 hours like it used to be.

And in other music show news I’m mad I missed the REM reunion show at their friend’s wedding on Saturday.

I like how Ticketmaster charges you *extra* to print your own tickets by PDF. No, you can send me the paper tickets at no additional charge, fuck you very much!

I saw her a couple of years ago when she opened for the Flaming Lips. Actually, I went to that concert more for her than the Lips (though both were totally awesome to the extreme). She’s playing close to home at the end of the month and I won’t get to go. I’m very sad about that.

I used to be a hardcore liz phair fan, and still love her older stuff… but I don’t know what she fried her brain with that made her think going pop was gonna be a good idea… *kicks that last album*

I like all her albums - yes, even including the last one. (I haven’t heard the brand new one yet - plan to buy it soon.) Her last album was certainly different from the others - but that’s one thing I like about her, that all her albums are different. She’s not just doing the same thing over and over. It would be tough for me to pick a favorite album of hers, since in my opinion they are all good, each in its own way.

Oh, and the show was great. I tried to take some pictures, but none of them turned out. Here’s one of the marquee of the Roxy, though.
