Since a lot of people only like to bellyache about MARTA, I figured I’d link to this: MARTA Posts First Profit in 9 Yrs.

Private property stops where my vagina starts

Amanda follows an analogy between wombs and rental property to its logical conclusion. (Hey, when you’re starting with a highly offensive cartoon that reduces women to below-human status, you gotta do what you gotta do.) This effectively illustrates, for the umpteenth time, that anti-choicers don’t give two shits about “preserving life,” but are all about punishing women – whom, as we’ve established, they see as less-than-human. Been there, done that… ho hum, anti-choicers, is subtlety lost on you these days? At least try to put forth the effort of obfuscation.

Anyway, another great thing about the analogy is that it shows how quickly anti-choice arguments by “conservatives” degenerate. Lord knows they wouldn’t think twice about kicking some bum outta their rental slum – get a job, you goddamn hippie. Or, as Amanda said:

In fact, this cartoon so goes against your average conservative’s views on private property that one wonders how the cognitive dissonance doesn’t make their heads explode.

New look, take 2

I think my new layout is almost ready for prime-time. Really the only thing I still need to do is put in some kind of trickery to make the header “image” (it’s actually a background image) clickable. Big thanks to the talented Bitch | Lab for dressing up the header image and creating the cool little sidebar flower. I need an aesthetic eye to help me out every once in a while!

Anyway… if you have any final thoughts/comments/complaints about the new layout, speak now or forever shut the fuck up once it’s live.

Update: Oh yeah, and I also need to redo the Bio and About This Site pages to match as well…. and dare to take a peek at it in IE. That is something I’m not looking forward to!

Mainstream, schmainstream

You can make fun all you want, but the fact of the matter is, I love Christina Aguilera’s “Fighter.” Those lyrics kick ass. And I also think it would be an awesome song to pole dance to. (To which… Shut up, grammarians.)

Oh! And the next song that just came up on my iPod after that one? Liz Phair’s “Mesmerizing,” another personal favorite.

Countering the stupidity

Check out my interview with Raye Andrews, owner of Aphrodite’s Toybox. Remembering that people like her are out there makes me feel a little less pissed off at the world today.

More stupidity

I’m sort of depressed in general today… an accumulation of a lot of things. A lot of it has to do with disillusionment about where we as a country are going, where are priorities are. This didn’t help:

“I was SHOCKED to see a giant breast on the cover of your magazine,” one person wrote. “I immediately turned the magazine face down,” wrote another. “Gross,” said a third.

These readers weren’t complaining about a sexually explicit cover, but rather one of a baby nursing, on a wholesome parenting magazine — yet another sign that Americans are squeamish over the sight of a nursing breast, even as breast-feeding itself gains more support from the government and medical community.

Sigh… what the fuck is wrong with people??? Are we honestly so incredibly hung-up on our own fucked-up sexual issues that we have a problem with a mother breast-feeding her child???

The best? Some stupid idiot who said she shredded (!!) the magazine because she didn’t want her 13-year-old son to see it. Because, obviously his head would explode if he saw a breast. And then look at her dumbass rationale:

A breast is a breast — it’s a sexual thing. He didn’t need to see that.

No, stupid, a breast is not “a sexual thing.” It’s a part of the body. It can be enjoyed in a sexual way, but in and of itself it’s not inherently sexual.

And, further down:

I don’t want my son or husband to accidentally see a breast they didn’t want to see.

Oh god!!! Protect the men from the prowling breasts!!

Give me a goddamn break.

I hope this day gets better soon. It’s not looking good, though.

Be a Georgia voter

Rusty said it best:

Be sure to place your votes in Creative Loafing’s Best of Atlanta contest. The deadline is tomorrow, so there’s no time to waste! Please vote for the Georgia Podcast Network for best local web site, and one of our programs for best local podcast. We’re partial to Mostly ITP, but they’re all fine choices. ;)

Snakes… in the mail?

This is way better than Snakes on a Plane:

A woman caused panic in a German post office when a 1.5m (5ft) albino python snake she was trying to send through the mail broke free of its packaging.

The money quote? “It is not illegal for people to send snakes via mail.” !!!

Although, I mean, honestly? What legislator could anticipate that someone would actually want to mail a snake?
