UPS sucks.
Brief recap of events:
1. Driver calls saying he’s at my apartment building with a delivery and doesn’t know how to get in the gate. Sounds slightly panicked. All other delivery drivers have access keys, this guy must be new or something. Rather than try to talk him through it on the phone I asked if he could just take it back to their warehouse. He said yes.
2. Find out the warehouse is only open 8-8 M-F - which are the exact hours I work. Email customer service and ask if they can redeliver and leave at my door. No, they can’t. Ask if I can change the delivery address. No, they can’t do that either.
3. More lengthy email exchanges w/ customer service ensue. Ask them to hold package until Dec. 15th. They give me a song and dance about how they’re not supposed to do that. I ask again, more emphatically - they say okay, they’ll hold it for pick-up until the 15th.
4. Today: about to take a quick break from work and drive way the fuck up to Doraville to get it. Decide to put in the tracking number on the web site first. Ack! Status: package delivered in Louisville, KY on Dec. 11th! WTF!
5. Thanks to this awesome web site (hat tip to David) I am now able to call the UPS phone number and talk to a human. She says, yeah, we only hold for 5 days, I don’t know what they told you but we can’t do that. I ask more questions. Refrain: “we can’t do that.” I ask if they can schedule a redelivery. You can imagine what the answer is. Apparently now I have to contact the place I ordered from.
Now some people aren’t going to get their Christmas presents on time. It’s a good thing I’m not more uptight about that kind of thing.
But I’m still fucking pissed at UPS. Never going to use them for shipping again if I can help it (not sure if I had a choice with this order; don’t remember).

Can’t say I didn’t warn you.
I love getting gifts late, spreads the love a bit, doncha know.
Next time, call me. Seriously.
I know. I didn’t think of that until… just now, actually. Boo.
I’ll try to sort it out next week.
Fed Ex can be just as frustrating, not able to hold packages and whatnot, so you can’t win. Blame the merchant and not the courier for restricting their shipments. And the post office with Express Mail couldn’t get in our gate one Saturday, so these things happen.
After going through so many songs and dances with UPS, I have gotten to the point where I have everything shipped to my work address except for things that I know are being shipped by the USPS. I had 2 antique tables that were in UPS limbo for about a month at one point, and finally we convinced UPS to ship them to a Mailboxes etc. near my house where I could pick them up. If they agree to re-ship these items, consider asking them to do that. (I think Mailboxes etc. may now be known as the UPS store, but I’m not sure.)
UPS ain’t reshipping shit. I’m going ot have to talk to the place I ordered from.
I work in a warehouse, and in my experience, no one particular shipping company stands out. All have screwed up at one point or another, but most of the time the shipments arrive just as expected, irregardless of shipping company.
You think UPS sucks, you should try dealing with Airborne Express/DHL. Truly the most pitiful delivery service I’ve ever dealt with.
UPS does suck! I just waited 10 hours today for a package *that wasn’t even on the effing truck*. I was afraid to go to the bathroom for fear the driver would come and I wouldn’t be able to answer the door. I called the 1-800 line a minimum of 4 times, only to be told that it was “on its way” every time. Arrrrrg. Finally, talked to a human, and he told me that the best they can do is to hope it makes it on the truck tomorrow. Great.
