My two oldest, closest friends don't blog. They also happen not to live in Georgia, but we keep in touch via email, IM, and (to a lesser extent) telephone. When we do get together in person, it's like we've never been apart. Blogging has helped me make many new friends, and reconnect with old friends with whom I had lost touch (examples: <a href="http://therealsangeet.blogspot.com/" rel="nofollow">sangeet</a> and <a href="http://wakingvixen.com/blog" rel="nofollow">Dacia</a>) - but I'm certainly not limiting friendships to people who blog!
