Sex 2.0 progress

June 26, 2007 I’m very excited, because Sex 2.0 plans are progressing nicely!

We now have a confirmed venue, which means we have an idea of how much money we need to raise; which means we can start contacting sponsors! Sex 2.0 will take place April 12, 2008 at the Spring4th Center.

Rusty is going to write a press release tonight or this weekend, and then we can use that, along with bios and such, to put together a media kit to send to potential sponsors. I already have several local companies/organizations in mind that I’d like to approach. Other people will be in charge of approaching sponsors elsewhere (and with helping me approach them here, because really, this is something I definitely cannot do on my own).

We have four sessions nailed down; and there will be more, many more! The fabulous Audacia Ray is also confirmed as the keynote speaker.

If you have an idea for a session, please add it to the sessions page on the wiki; the password is sex20. I will not be coming up with ideas for any sessions. Like PodCamp, this is an unconference created by YOU the participants!

Two of the confirmed sessions have detailed descriptions… here they are:

Choose Your Own Adventure: How has the escorting business changed with the advent of the Internet? – Kristi Kane

Thanks to the Internet, certain hit-or-miss aspects of the escorting business are going by the wayside.

For men, this includes: Looking up random escort agencies in the Yellow Pages, and not knowing what they’ll get; Calling an agency, asking for a petite redhead and getting a heavy brunette; Or having the right girl show up, but not performing the advertised service.

For women: Working for an old-school agency and not knowing who they’ll be seeing or where they’ll be going; Having to wear a blonde wig to an appointment because the guy asked for a blonde; Placing ads in alternative weeklies and fielding tons of bizarre calls from undesirable clients; Having to give half of their hard-earned money back to the agency; And worst of all, walking the streets or dealing with pimps.

For girls who don’t mind answering their own phones, doing their own client screening, and of course, doing their own advertising online, the Internet offers not only a more lucrative arena for putting their assets to work, but gives both providers and hobbyists a place to “choose their own adventures.”

Note to self: Stop being such a cheapskate and order more MOO cards. I couldn’t send nearly as many as I wanted to Dacia, Rachel, and Regina. I need to keep reminding myself that yes, in fact, it is okay to spend money on things that aren’t “essential.” :P

On that note, here’s a note to everyone: Feel free to make your own MOO cards, ’cause the logo is on Flickr for everyone’s Creative Commons-friendly use.

Um, I guess I should write up a descriptor for my thing, eh? I will try to do so…also, I was thinking, as I am a swinger sex club goer, you want me to do something on that instead of or along with???

Yeah, you should write a description, but the good news is, you’ve got plenty of time. :)

As for the swing club thing – that sounds great! If you want to do it, you can either do it instead of the online feminism one (which I still hope you’ll lead, but if not, I’m sure someone else will be willing) or in addition to it. These things can (and should) be very informal. So don’t worry, it’s not like you’ll have to do a ton of preparation. For the swing club one you might want to have nothing more than people sitting around talking about different experiences at swing clubs.

Hi, Amber. You may recall me from Flickr and my familiarity with some of the old lounges/clubs via the band world or having lived nearby them. There may be no relevance/relationship at all but I was wondering if your father’s work in the lounge world (for instance, the Midas Lounge) had anything to do with influencing your views, and if so how this might be. I’m not assuming that there is a relationship, but I would imagine you grew up with a fair number of stories. You seem like an open enough person that I thought I’d just try posing the question.

  7. 07 Jul 2007 at 9:43 pm Amber

I actually didn’t know about the Midas Lounge until a few years ago. I knew my dad had managed night clubs in Augusta, and my mom worked as a bartender (that’s how they met) until I was 6 or 7; sometimes my mom would tell stories of people she met or things that happened at the bars where she worked. But in terms of any of it contributing to me being an “open” person? Nope. When I was growing up my parents were almost totally silent on the subject of anything sex-related, other than a very few comments and incidents which made it clear that all that stuff was Very Bad Indeed (for me, anyway).

    Thanks, Amber. Appreciate your time.

I used to have some pics of the clubs on Broad St. from the early 80s. I looked for them recently but was unable to locate them. I scanned a bunch of old damaged pics to computer a number of years ago and they may have been on some CDs that went bad on me.

Amber I plan on it, in fact over the next several weeks I hope to be more involved(please, please). In fact, I have an idea that I will go through googlegroup if you want, but I would love to do something on body acceptance, ways… means… psychology… personhood…ownerships through movement… everything beside dieting, unworthiness, or conventional standards that dictate outside of one’s self and identity.(my apologies if this has already been suggested)

    sassywho,
That sounds awesome!! Yes, please take it and run with it! :)

Great, I will put the info up in the next few days, how do you like the title “Cum as you are”?

    Heh. I love it!
