“Given this larger context in which sex worker advocacy is changing, what do you think about the potential for this blog (whose origins are highlighted in the piece) for social change for sex workers?”

Amanda takes the publishing industry – and really, all of society – to task in this post. It is made of WIN.

“Emotional abuse is often thought of as a lesser kind of abuse. … Physical abuse is often cited as next worst, followed by sexual abuse, which is often regarded as the worst possible kind of abuse that anyone could experience.”
-
“The uncomfortable truth, though, is that most men who pay for sex are just ‘regular guys’ – colleagues, brothers, fathers, sons and lovers.” Overall an okay article; but there are some “eh?” points, like suggesting prostitution is no longer stigmatized.
-
“Here are eight ways activists are working to promote the rights of sex workers and what you can do to help.”
-
“When everyone has the ability to report the news, even in what Mr. Schorr would decry as a pathetically amateurish effort, everyone has access to information that is both up to date and more thorough than the establishment has ever been capable of.”

Amber,
What is WIN?

PS: Love that it’s “surprising” that “regular” guys see sex workers. Who would’ve thought?
You know, win… as in, you win at life for this post. The all caps are just for extra emphasis. ;)
Amber,
Since I’m so used to acronyms, I thought it was another one.
Thank you! I’m blushing.

OMG! I am so excited to see my blog quoted here :) How did you find it?
I noticed that someone found it by googling emotional abuse (or actually by googling something long about why people abuse people that way) so I’ve been working on posting more on that topic. Hope you enjoy it!
I found it via BlogHer. Your blog is excellent and I’m looking forward to reading your book.
I can especially relate to your post “Standing up for ourselves”… in fact, I’m going to bookmark it, too!
