Strippers Ball

For those of you who may be wondering, yes, I did do the Strippers Ball thing last night. I talked about it in detail on the podcast we recorded tonight, which will be posted soon. I don’t feel like trying to restate everything I said in the podcast, but in summary, yes, I was in the contest - the very first contestant, in fact - before bowing out because it was clearly more focused on mimicking spring break than showcasing actual talent. But at least I got up and danced in front of a room full of a few hundred people (which might be the closest I get to amateur night for a while, since practically no strip clubs around here do it anymore). And later, two friends from pole dancing class and I had a loads of fun on the pole, after the stupid Strippers Ball was over. I won’t lie, I was a little disappointed; but I ended up having fun anyway, even if the contest wasn’t awesome.

Update: The podcast is up.

I like the podcast. You and Rusty have a great rhythm together. You have a nice audience voice — very laid back, calm, great timing.

I empathize with your strippers ball experience. In the beginning of when I started stripping, I was very serious about pole work and got pretty good at it (ex gymnast). One of the part-owners of the club who often took dancers to contests asked me to come along, which was flattering. It was frustrating, though, because often the people I thought should win didn’t. I found actual dance ability, cool pole tricks, neat costumes to be most impressive, whereas often the more skin- or contact-oriented a dance was with the audience, the better the dancer would rate, even if she didn’t do much with the pole. The one time I did well in a contest did involve “spring break” activity, including a stupid trick I’ve done for years that involves no artistry whasoever. Kind of frustrating.

My first contest was somewhat like what you describe. I had a great costume and pole routine and was feeling very jazzed. I thought I’d done OK, a few other women went and I was still feeling pretty good. Then everyone started cheering wildly when “London” was called. She came out, and I have to admit I uncharitably wondered what was going on. London was very tall, heavier than typical, with a very standardized blue stripper dress. Her music was very slow. She walked out, approached one of the guys, and slowly, boredly, provided a hardcore gynecological exam. She then repeated that with a few others, then proceeded to lie down and feign masturbation for awhile, at which point she walked offstage. She won hands down.
