I followed links from GR’s comment … this may actually be a boost to her singing career, albeit temporarily. She seemed like she talked to the NYT willingly, but was that already after her face/ID was leaked? I’ve been neck-deep in a new job the past week and haven’t been keeping up.

“Kristen’s” outing in the New York Times and the paparazzi’s stalking of Britney Spears seem kind of on the same level to me … the people *reading this shit*, and buying the papers, eat it up. So the papers cater to them.

Is it immoral? Sure … speaking as someone who’s worked in the MSM too … I also think it’s exploitation sticking a camera in the face of someone who’s kids/spouse/whoever has just been killed, but the public demands the “whole” story.

“this shit could actually destroy this young womanâ€™s life … But you donâ€™t give a shit … You want to break a good story. You wonâ€™t give a second thought to this actual person whose life you have put in real danger.”

This is exactly how I feel about the identities of ANY “sex offender” being put in the papers, online, etc. Luckily, her home address hasn’t been leaked, AFAIK …

While I think that I understand why this upsets you, it’s worth noting that this is, for the moment at least, bolstering, rather than injuring, that other career:

I feel really awful for her. Not only is she going to be dealing with the shame and scorn of the public, but she’ll be a target for the poeple disappointed in Spitzer’s fall. Nobody deserves to go through that.
