“When someone’s looking, there’s a bit of a Schroedinger’s Cat effect, in that the presence of a observer changes the thing, the moment, the reality. For example, the fact that you’re reading this right now might affect how I write it.”

“Um, guys, think about it. A huge part of being a sex worker is the skill and promise of discretion. There’s a really high value on that, and it benefits us to be good at discretion. Why would we release a list of the top 100 politicians who hire escorts?”

“If your every page on your site ends with ‘(c) 2008 Paranoid Co Inc, all rights reserved. No part of this site may be reproduced without permission,’ then bloggers may just take you at your word and write about someone else’s site.”

It’s like Samhita was going in a good direction and then just kept pulling back. Way to end with an incredibly insulting and dehumanizing statement. Thanks but no thanks. And why no link to any of the sex worker blogs covering this story?

“It was a big turn-on without the risk and sensitivity most of experience when they think about bringing ’someone else’ into their sex lives. It pushes boundaries and takes advantage of raw, natural sexual energy without compromising trust.”

“What we’re not so sure we agree on, however, are the slams that Lacy has received for being overly sexual (and therefore ‘unprofessional’).” Mm-hmm. Unprofessional. It happened again. (For the 3,876,297th time…)

“They have no concept that their scoop could be used against us, to ruin our lives and take away our children, homes, and assets.”

“Slate contributor Sudhir Venkatesh deserves credit for reporting that Spitzer’s alleged $4,300 date was not premium pricing. But his generalizations are far too broad for such a diverse industry as Web-powered prostitution.”
-
“I just noticed Q&A With a Call Girl: Former call girl opens up about the industry on MSNBC. The Q&A asks the all important questions ‘What did you carry in your purse?’ and ‘How much did you spend on clothes?’”
-
“Yet another man deciding for sex workers how their work should be handled. NY Times – please stop publishing this crap. … [T]he stories are getting repetitive and stupid. Unless something new happens, this thing is just going to go in circles for a while.”
-
“But as more and more barriers to entry get put up — economic, legal, or otherwise — fewer people are able to enter the market; and those that do are unlikely to risk their bankroll trying to create and promote a different kind of porn.”
