So about that BBC interview…

Jenny and Ren have been asking, so I should actually answer!

I think it went really well. It was actually more of a “pre-interview” though… the guy said they were trying to figure out the best way to cover Sex 2.0. Their program airs on Saturday, and he asked about doing live mini-interviews from the conference over Skype, but I had to be honest and told him our internet connection probably wouldn’t be all that reliable. He said they might try to book an NPR studio in Atlanta on Friday and do a pre-recorded interview, but that his team was going to have a meeting first and he’d be in touch.

So far I haven’t heard anything else; but either way, I think it was a good experience for me – even though (or maybe because) I was totally nervous the whole time and trying to make myself not be nervous.

Jenny said, “You do this kind of thing all the time!” and I had to laugh… yeah, I do podcasts all the time. This just seems a little different! ;)

Dacia asked if I was nervous talking to media, or if I was just nervous because it was the freakin’ BBC. Definitely the latter!

Anyway, it was interesting, exciting, and nerve-racking, and who knows, maybe there will be more interviews like this in my future. We’ll see!

Butterflies in the stomach? Don’t try to get rid of them. Get them to fly in formation.

Hey, Amber, I am so impressed with the publicity that you have garnered for Sex 2.0. Years ago I organized conferences and educational seminars, relying upon dead tree media, since that was all that existed eons ago. So I appreciate how much work and effort is required to line up the interviews and articles in that critical period before a conference takes place.

I have learned so much about social media and blog aggregators just from reading your posts and Rusty’s. All this raises important questions, particularly how transparency challenges our beliefs about privacy and professionalism. I wish I could be there in person to ask these questions. Even though I cannot attend, please know that I wish you the very best.

Rock on with your bad self Amber. I myself get nervous like that too…as in, I am stressing about not freaking out while speaking at sex 2.0 :) – it probably won’t happen, cause the people are cool and stuff, but…

It’s odd how awkward I can be around real humans :)

Is that the BBC as in the British Broadcasting Corporation? If so, I’d love to know when they plan to air the interview and whatever else they get?

On account of me being British and resident in the UK an’ all!

Yes, BBC as in British Broadcasting Corporation! The phone interview I gave yesterday won’t actually go on the program, I don’t think; but if/when I know something else, I’ll let you know.

Oh, and it was for the BBC Radio 4 program iPM.

I’m so going to listen out for it anyway. I missed Ren when she was on the radio cos this computer doesn’t have sound. I know you say you’re not actually going to be on it, but still it’ll be cool.

The XBN broadcast w/ Ren should be archived in podcast form!

iPM is a podcast that happens to go out on the airwaves as well, as I understand from their website. Their draft running order for April 12th didn’t seem to mention you, but maybe it was under an un-obvious heading.

The site for the programme is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/ipm/
