I don’t like how she dismisses all criticisms as being made by people who have never watched the show, though. What, like people can’t have different opinions?

People can have opinions, but that doesn’t mean that great weight should be given to them. If you’ve never seen / read something, why should I think your criticisms are valid? Roger Ebert would never give a review of a movie he’s never seen. And he sure wouldn’t give one based on someone else’s viewing of the movie.

Precisely. If you’ve seen the show a couple of times or been exposed to it through various media/critiques, you can have an initial impression, but you can’t possibly have an informed opinion.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with saying you don’t like something even if you don’t know it well, but you can’t expect people to take that opinion very seriously. You just can’t critique what you don’t know.

It’s like me and Star Wars. It’s not my thing. I think it’s dumb, annoying and looks like total crap. If I had seen anything more of it than Episode One, that opinion might be worth something. As it is, I have to live with the knowledge that I could very well be missing out on the coolest movies of all time.

    I’ll survive.

I think maybe you guys misread what I was saying. I was saying that just because someone isn’t wild about SATC doesn’t mean they haven’t ever watched it. It is possible that they have watched it and did not like it, and have valid criticisms about it.

    Ha! Yes, totally misread it.
