Capitalism

This post has been in draft mode for some time now, as a placeholder with just the title, “Capitalism.” I was thinking I might eventually write a long screed about how I don’t think capitalism sucks, and I get annoyed when it’s assumed that because I’m a liberal/progressive/feminist/whatever else, I’m supposed to be anti-capitalist. I think most of the problems we see in this country that people attribute to capitalism are really just a case of Doing It Wrong.

I don’t feel like writing a screed, though, so I’ll just say: Capitalism. I don’t think it sucks.

I do, however, love this Married to the Sea cartoon, the file name of which is capitalism.gif:

I absolutely won’t write it for you, because I’d rather read what you have to say, but please consider this:

There are two kinds of corporations: one kind, usually lean and agile, is responsible for creating most of the wealth of this nation; the other kind, usually slow, stupid, and powerful, does little but suck the wealth out of a nation.

Anybody who doesn’t see the difference is a fool or on the take. Anybody who tries to pretend progressives are against all corporations has an agenda, and we’d damn well better get that agenda out into the open; any progressive who writes against all corporations is a sucker.

OMG, yes! Also, that all us liberal/progressive/feminist/whatever elses MUST be Democrats. Not so. And I’m definitely not Republican.
