I’m busy w/ work so I’m just going to dash this off. A few weeks ago Creative Loafing had this story about Atlantans who moved to New York, and what they thought of NYC. I didn’t read it, but in this week’s (or I guess now it’s last week’s) Creative Loafing they had letters responding to it. There was one that was thanking them for running it bc the person said they get sick and tired of hearing the self-righteous assholes who move to Atlanta from cities in the North and talk about “You have no culture, you don’t know good food, you’re not educated, blah blah blah.” Then there was a letter by one of those assholes! It was doing everything the previous letter had said - telling Southerners we have no culture, telling us we deserve to be made fun of by the rest of the country. GOD! Fuck those people! I am so SICK of shit like that! And it’s always from people who describe themselves as progressive and liberal, too. Guess what… even if you’re right about some of it (not saying you are or aren’t, but let’s just put it out there for the sake of argument) it doesn’t matter because you’re being a complete tool about it! Bias against the South remains an acceptable form of bias among progressives and I’m fucking sick of it. It is NOT OKAY. Own your shit before you point fingers, assholes.

I hate the bias against the South as well. It is a shame the Confederate flag is such a symbol of hate. It would be really nice if there were a Southern symbol or flag that we could fly to show our regional pride. I had vanity plates in New Hampshire that read, “HI YALL” I always got a big kick out of the reaction.
Yeah, this is one of those things that drives me crazy too. The sheer arrogance of people who do that. They wouldn’t visit another country and say that, but the South is fair game. And somehow a New York accent is okay, but a drawl is a sign of idiocy? Who came up with that brilliance?

The South doesn’t have any culture?!?! My ass it doesn’t! The food down there is better by far, hospitality too. I don’t even live in the South but all of my family’s roots are Southern so I get offended when someone who doesn’t know anything about the South outside of the Civil War, slavery and Jim Crow era irk the hell outta me. Jeebus, the South is so much more than that!
And you’re right Amber. It’s always “liberal progressives” who have the horrible attitudes against the South. I find more and more than many self-described liberals are anything but…don’t get me started on that rant.

My personal pet peeve is when they interview the northern-transplants opening the new store or restaurant or whatever and they snootily inform us (upstate SC ain’t exactly Atlanta!) that the real reason they just had to do it is because they were simply starving for a decent _____(fill in the the blank)______ (cup of coffee, book, CD, movie, meal, designer shoes, etc) and so had to open the business THEMSELVES or else DO WITHOUT. And they always add that people here will finally have the benefit of their WONDERFULNESS. How did we ever survive without it for SO LONG?????

I hate bias against any region of the United States.
There are several things that show our Southern Pride. The Atlanta Rhythm Section and the Allman Brothers Band musically. America’s oldest flea market is in the Orangeburg County town of Springfield, SC. Just a few things that are good about the south.
As for what Daisy said, shivas (a liberal poster on the Augusta Chronicle forums) also has told the people moving down south to go back where they came from.
