  • "I think this, or some derivative thereof, would address the substance of the majority of the complaints and concerns that doomed the original Proposition K, and would allow a great many more people to support it. It doesn’t wholesale endorse prostitution, but it allows those who wish to do the work to do so without having to fear being arrested for the work, and allows them to know that, if they file a complaint about a crime, they won’t be harassed or worse simply because of the line of work they choose to pursue."
  • "With regard to sex slavery, *ahem* I don't know how we can say it any louder or clearer: WE. HATE. SLAVERY!

In all forms. Because it doesn't really matter whether you're forced to suck cock or forced to shuck corn. You're being forced. Period. But we sex-pozzies, as your camp so charmingly refers to us as, have always and will always detest sex slavery the most. Why? Because we love sex! We do not ever want sex to be something that is FORCED in any respect! Only people who have a negative view of sex think it is okay for it to be forced; these are the same people who revel in sexual ignorance. Understand this: THAT is the very opposite of sex-positive, darlings."

  • "You can’t control what people think, and who cares what they think anyway? By now, the only person who really cares about this stuff is you, and maybe Nick Denton because he is, among other things, a pervert who delights in other people’s misfortunes."

  • "Two years ago his husband — a healthy man by all appearances — collapsed at work, and was rushed to the hospital. Our friend arrived at the hospital only to be told that without proof of their relationship he could not see his husband or receive any information about his husband’s condition.

Without knowing what was wrong, or whether his husband would survive until he got back, he drove home, retrieved their legal documents, returned to the hospital and was allowed to see his husband, and had time to say goodbye. His husband died a few days later, of a brain aneurysm, without regaining consciousness.

I told that story to our white, heterosexual neighbor. She told me what happened when her husband was rushed to the hospital. She arrived at the hospital and only needed to say three words: 'I’m his wife.' She got three words in response: 'Right this way.'"

  • "I was very and always pro-American before I went to live in the USA and after being there a few years lost that hope, and faith in the American ideal. I was exposed to religious arrogance enveloped in intolerance, racism, sexism and judgmental attitudes, yet my God, the Christ who died on a cross for me, didn’t let me fall into that self importance and relevance."

Same thing happens when you call the various utility and credit card companies about billing problems, etc. Some of that stuff is in his name, some is in mine, and we can’t even remember which ones. We both call, give the other’s name, and we are asked “are you MR ___?” or “are you MRS___?” and we get service. They have no way of knowing if we really are legally married or not, except that we have all the necessary account/SS numbers. But see, a soprano voice claiming to be a woman’s wife, or a baritone voice claiming to be a man’s husband, would not (and is not) given such automatic leeway.

Countless privileges with marriage, and heterosexuals would have a FIT if they were taken away. When they say “what is the big deal?”–I often wonder if they are even paying attention to their own lives…

Of course not, because that’s the definition of privilege - not having to know that privilege exists!
