"But just because not everyone plays it with that intent, doesn’t mean that that’s not the perspective on women’s sexuality that the game is taking. Not everyone playing the game may be sexist in doing it, but the game itself is still sexist and reflects a sexist ideology that pervades society.
I’m writing all this less to draw attention to the game (although I am getting some game frustration off my chest) and more to draw attention that even in the absence of capital-O Obvious Objectification, there remain ways that in our everyday representations of women’s sexuality in entertainment and even in speech, sexist attitudes continue to be normalized."

"And, you can accuse me of splitting hairs, but I believe the difference between terms such as prejudice, racism, sexism, and bigotry is important. When we act as if ANYONE can be racist or sexist, we deny the systematic, institutionalized arrangement of our society and act as if these attitudes and inequalities are coming out of a vacuum."

"We are all still working on it. Even me, even people who have been waving the fat acceptance banner for decades longer than I have. We’re all still working on it, because the messages are relentless – the messages that tell us we should hate ourselves, starve ourselves, make dieting at least a part-time job (for our health!), the messages that tell us we will never be loved if we 'let ourselves go,' the messages that tell us there is only one acceptable female body type, and you and I are both too fat for it, and you’re too black for it, and millions of women — the majority of us, actually — are too something (even too skinny) for it. Those messages never, ever let up, and rejecting them involves a conscious choice, every dingdang day. And some days, like I said, you don’t feel perfectly strong and righteous and ready for battle."

I’m glad she mentioned the “too skinny” part because it reminded me of the complete assholeness of strangers. I cannot begin to tell you how many “you need eat” comments I’ve had over last 15 years. STFU!
“You need to eat.”
“You need to kiss my ass.”
Ah yes, “you need to eat.”
After making efforts to lose about 10 pounds to get to a size I liked, I underwent life changes and a lot of stress and proceeded to lose 10 more, which makes me feel too thin. I have tried unsuccessfully for 2 years to gain 5-7 pounds. It angers me for people to say sarcastically “poor you, you can’t gain weight.” The “you need to put on some pounds” brings out both the “you need to stop telling me what I need to do” and somewhat contradictory “you think I don’t know that already? You think I’m not trying?” responses from me. I would never dream of telling an acquaintance/ casual friend that they need to lose weight, so I don’t see how people think they’re somehow qualified to medically or aesthetically judge someone who’s thin.
