I’ve caught the holiday spirit… have you?

Happy holidays, everyone!

Rusty and I are working on an end-of-the-year podcast, so stay tuned. In the meantime, you can listen to the podcast from our ghost-hunting adventure with the Henry County Ghost Hunters.
Also, we photographed another abandoned Atlanta school today: Adair Park Elementary School, built in 1912.
We’ll be in Scarietta tomorrow, Disgusta on Tuesday. (They’re pet names, really.) So this should be enough to keep you occupied in the meantime. There may even be some blogging between now and then, but I can’t say for sure.
Happy holiday(s) of your choice!
I am freaking out because some food stuff I ordered for people for Christmas isn’t here yet and I can’t find a receipt or anything. I don’t even care about this stuff but here I am worrying that I ruined Christmas.
UPS sucks.
Brief recap of events:
1. Driver calls saying he’s at my apartment building with a delivery and doesn’t know how to get in the gate. Sounds slightly panicked. All other delivery drivers have access keys, this guy must be new or something. Rather than try to talk him through it on the phone I asked if he could just take it back to their warehouse. He said yes.
2. Find out the warehouse is only open 8-8 M-F - which are the exact hours I work. Email customer service and ask if they can redeliver and leave at my door. No, they can’t. Ask if I can change the delivery address. No, they can’t do that either.
3. More lengthy email exchanges w/ customer service ensue. Ask them to hold package until Dec. 15th. They give me a song and dance about how they’re not supposed to do that. I ask again, more emphatically - they say okay, they’ll hold it for pick-up until the 15th.
4. Today: about to take a quick break from work and drive way the fuck up to Doraville to get it. Decide to put in the tracking number on the web site first. Ack! Status: package delivered in Louisville, KY on Dec. 11th! WTF!
5. Thanks to this awesome web site (hat tip to David) I am now able to call the UPS phone number and talk to a human. She says, yeah, we only hold for 5 days, I don’t know what they told you but we can’t do that. I ask more questions. Refrain: “we can’t do that.” I ask if they can schedule a redelivery. You can imagine what the answer is. Apparently now I have to contact the place I ordered from.
Now some people aren’t going to get their Christmas presents on time. It’s a good thing I’m not more uptight about that kind of thing.
But I’m still fucking pissed at UPS. Never going to use them for shipping again if I can help it (not sure if I had a choice with this order; don’t remember).
The holiday weekend in Augusta was a success. Even the puzzlingly-named West Bank Inn got into the spirit:
More pictures here.
Will be leaving Augusta soon, but it’s been a good Christmas… and I got to see two babies this weekend. :-) Chris and I are on our way to see Abby again this afternoon, too. Will post more later. In the meantime, here are some obligatory pictures that will probably be of no interest to anyone except the people in them…
